2021 Leafy Spurge Beetle Collection Days

The SARM Plant Health Officers (PHOs) will be holding Leafy Spurge Beetle Collection Field Days at Besant Campground, west of Carport on Highway #1 from July 5-9th.  The collection days will run from 10 am to 3pm. All Saskatchewan landowners, Rural Municipality and First Nation Band representatives are invited to come and take part in the collections. Any beetles collected can be taken back to your property or RM/FNB for release, free of charge, to be used as a bio-control for the noxious weed; leafy spurge. The 2021 Leafy Spurge Beetle Collection Days Poster is attached, which contains more information about the Leafy Spurge Collection Days.

2021 Assessment

The RM of Hoodoo’s 2021 assessment roll will be open from April 9, 2021 to June 20, 2021. 2021 is a “Revaluation Year” which means all property assessments will be revalued with a base date of January 1, 2019.  Please note that new for the 2021 assessment year, as per The Municipalities Act, is the removal of Section 293 farm dwelling exemptions in unorganized hamlets. This includes all dwellings at Wakaw Lake. This is a legislated change, and is not under the control of council or administration. If you have any concerns about this change, please contact your MLA.

The municipality plays a limited role in the assessed value of your property.  SAMA (Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency) is the assessment provider for Saskatchewan municipalities.  SAMA’s website www.sama.sk.ca has detailed property reports and a wealth of information to assist the public.

Ultimately, the assessed value of your property and the municipal mill rate determines the amount of taxes you pay each year.  Additional levies such as municipal hail, education property taxes and/or conservation & development area taxes also apply.

Appeals to the assessed value of your property can only be made when the Assessment Roll is open each year.  The fee to appeal is $50.00 per property, however this fee will be returned to you if your appeal is successful. For a comprehensive review of Assessment Appeals, the Government of Saskatchewan has an ‘Assessment Appeals Guide in Saskatchewan for Citizens’ that is linked below:

Please see attached a notice that was sent with all assessment notices from SAMA. If you are entitled to a dwelling assessment exemption, please fill out the affidavit of ownership or lease and have it returned to the RM office.

Water station users – Clarification re: Transaction notification emails

We would like to remind water station users that the email you receive after you take water is a receipt for water taken only.  The `previous balance` and `balance remaining` at the bottom of that email are not updated at this time.  We are working with the software company to integrate our accounting records (payments, etc.) with the totals that show up on these emails.  To see an example of what we are referring to, please visit our website.

The volume and $ amount should be checked each time for accuracy.  A reminder that we send invoices on a quarterly basis, which include charges for water taken for the three-month period.  You are welcome to make payments throughout the quarter, but are not obligated to until an invoice is issued from the office.

Any questions please do not hesitate to call the office at 306-256-3281 or email [email protected].
